I’m craving spring (it’s still snowy here although it’s supposed to warm up for the weekend) so here are a few pink and pink-accented books I’ve recently acquired. I haven’t read Severence yet (thanks to @noteyjoanie for the giveaway!) and I’ve never read anything in the Love and Friendship collection by Jane Austen, so I’m excited for both of those. Today’s post is a shout out to the quieter books! I love a good thriller, I enjoy suspense, and mind-blowing/jaw-dropping twists are fun... . But. . There’s something special about a truly character-driven novel. Novels that are so well-written, with such an accessible voice, that you just want to hang out with the characters. The kind that leave you wishing you could take the protagonist to dinner sometime. . . Here are a few of my favorite “quieter” novels I pulled off my shelves last night: . Little Big Love by @katyreganauthor is a lovely family drama and coming-of-age story that snuck into my heart. . . How to Walk Away by @katherinecenter explores resilience, forgiveness, and family relationships (with a sweet love story). . Good In Bed, @jenniferweinerwrites ‘s smash debut hit, is a modern classic that EVERY woman should read. . Good Grief by Lolly Winston is a delightfully funny, sad, and sweet exploration of grief and moving on after loss, and . Love Walked In by @marisadelossantos will capture your heart as it explores love, togetherness, and found family. . . . What about you? Do you enjoy a quieter book now and then? ⭐️ Review ⭐️ . Nina Hill is an introvert. She loves routine, tends to be a little anxious, and she’s most comfortable hanging out with her cat and a good book. Not that she’s antisocial—she has plenty of friends and is part of a trivia night team—but she feels like her life is already full. She doesn’t need anyone else. . Enter a father she never knew she had, along with several half-siblings and relatives, as well as a potential suitor, and it’s no wonder Nina is feeling a little overwhelmed. . . This is a smart, funny, character-driven novel told with Abbi Waxman’s signature voice and humor. It took me a few chapters to settle into the rhythm and get to know Nina, but then I was hooked. If you like books, literary references, random nerdy bits of information, loveable but sometimes prickly heroines, sweet love stories, and quirky characters, this is the book for you! . . If you’re looking for a fun, fast, heart-pounding thriller, may I suggest this one? I couldn’t put it down until I found out what happened and finished it in about five hours! . . When college student Darby gets stranded in an isolated rest stop on her way to Utah during a snowstorm, the last thing she expects is to discover a kidnapped child in another vehicle at the rest stop. But now that she knows, she’s compelled to do something about it. The only problem is that she’s snowbound with four other people for the next several hours with no cell service. Which one is the kidnapper? Should she wait it out and hope for backup? What if she’s wrong about everything and her actions make it worse for the child? . . What follows is a wild thrill-ride full of twists and turns. While I predicted some of the twists, I still found this utterly enjoyable and well worth my time. Perfect for reading on a snowy evening! . . Have you read it? ❤️ February wrap-up and mini-reviews! ❤️ . Because of my week-long beach vacation I was able to read a LOT of books this month, and here are my top ten: . The Night Tiger: thoroughly engrossing historical fiction set in colonial Malaysia. Loved it! . . The Water Cure: dystopian literary fiction that left me vaguely unsettled—in a good way. Highly recommended for the right reader! . . 99% Mine: the anticipated follow-up to the smash hit The Hating Game. Very cute romance with a prickly heroine and a lovable hero. . . What the Wind Knows: beautifully written historical fiction with a compelling love story. My new favorite Amy Harmon novel. Highly recommended! . . The Last House Guest: eerie psychological suspense set in a Maine vacation town. Slow start but a few nice twists. Releases June 18 2019. . . The Unhoneymooners: a fun romantic comedy, enemies to lovers. Great chemistry, cute story. Releases May 14 2019. . . Watching You: deliciously twisty suspense about a murder in an upscale neighborhood. A fast, fun read with quirky characters. . . No Exit: a fast-paced thriller about a college student stranded in a snowbound rest stop who stumbled across a kidnapping-in-process. Lots of fun, a little gory. . . The Leavers: literary fiction exploring family, identity, immigration, and belonging. Made me think, made me cry, made me angry at times. Still processing this one. . . Any of these on your list?
